What is the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

A registered dietitian (RD) is healthcare professional who has completed specific education and requirements, including a bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics a supervised practice program, and a national exam. RDs are licensed to provide medical nutrition therapy and can work in clinical settings. On the other hand, a nutritionist is a broader term that can refer to anyone who provides advice on food and nutrition. Unlike RDs, nutritionists are not required to have specific education or training, and their services may not be covered by insurance.

Where do the sessions take place?

All sessions are through telehealth. Jody uses a platform called Practice Better, which includes Zoom video sessions, unlimited text messaging, and trackers for food, activity, etc. Jody is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and can also see clients who live in California, Colorado, Virginia, Michigan, and Arizona.

How can a registered dietitian help me with my health concerns?

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are experts in nutrition who can help individuals with a variety of nutrition concerns. They can provide personalized nutrition advice, develop meal plans, and offer guidance on healthy eating habits. RDs can also work with individuals to manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and food allergies.

What can I expect during the nutrition counseling sessions?

During nutrition counseling sessions, you can expect to discuss your current eating habits, health goals, and any challenges you may be facing. Your nutritionist will work with you to create a personalized plan that fits your lifestyle and helps you achieve your desired outcomes. You may also receive education on nutrition and healthy eating habits to support your journey towards optimal health.

How frequent are the sessions?

Typically sessions take place monthly or more often depending on the needs of each person. This is something that is discussed during the session.

Do you accept insurance?

In the past, I was credentialed through insurance, which often covered the cost of counseling. However, the amount of time required for claim management became too much, which impacted the time available to work with clients. I prefer to focus my time on my clients and helping them on their health journey, so I will no longer be accepting insurance.

A superbill can be provided that can be used to submit a claim for reimbursement directly with your insurance company. You can contact your insurance company to obtain specific instructions for this process as it varies by company. Payment for services is expected at the time of service.
